Will Clark

In 1996, my brother Dan and I were once again at Jack Russell Memorial Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Texas Rangers were in town to play the Phillies. My brother, Dan and I knew the clubhouse manager for the visiting team, Saul. Saul from time to time would let my brother and I hang out in the visiting clubhouse and get autographs. I'm sure nobody else was aware, as Saul probably would've been in a lot of trouble for allowing us to do this! Will Clark was one of the stars of the game going back to his San Francisco Giants days in 1980's. We were lucky to have the opportunity to sit and chat with Will the Thrill for a bit and he was kind enough to sign an 8x10 picture for each of us!

Juan Francisco

Juan Francisco seemed to be one of the toughest autographs to obtain! Each time I'd seen him which had been quite a few prior to finally getting him, he would ignore each request. In March, 2017 he was sent down to the Orioles Minor League Spring Training camp at Buck O'Neil Baseball Complex in Sarasota, Florida. On March 16, 2017 Juan was heading out of the clubhouse to his car, my son and I had asked him. He again, refused to acknowledge us and continued walking. He sat in his car for about 10 minutes which was parked close to mine. Another player had come out of the clubhouse and asked if we had any luck getting signatures. We said for the most part, yes. He then asked who we missed. I told him Juan Francisco, but I also mentioned that I didn't think he wanted to be bothered since he had a reputation of not signing autographs. The ball player, then took my son's and my card out of my book and knocked on Juan's driver-side window! Juan cracked open his car door and the player handed him the cards... Not the way I would've preferred, but the autograph has now been obtained and I'll never need to ask Mr. Francisco again!

Rafael signed a 1992 Upper Deck baseball card. Mr. Palmeiro had quite an accomplished career, amassing 3,020 hits and 569 career home runs! Unfortunately,  Mr. Palmeiro was one of many of the games talented players to be accused of using performance enhancing drugs during his career and has been black listed from the sport and not given serious thought into entering the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Pat Borders

I believe I first met Pat Borders in 1993 at Lansbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida. Pat signed a 1992 Uppder Deck baseball card. Pat was also the 1992 World Series MVP for the World Champion Toronto Blue Jays!

Cole Hamels

Cole Hamels signed this Phillies hat for me in 2005 at Brighthouse Networks Field in Clearwater, Florida while a member of the Clearwater Threshers. Cole hadn't made his Major League debut yet, but was nonetheless on a rehab assignment after injuring his hand.

Ryan Howard

On March 11, 2007 Tim Gradoville, a back up catcher on the Phillies 40-Man roster gave me an early birthday present (Birthday is March 12th) by gifting me a couple tickets to a Phillies Spring Training game at Brighthouse Networks Field in Clearwater, Florida against the Detroit Tigers. I brought my Dad with me. After the game, Tim invited my Dad and I down by the players parking lot, just outside of the Phillies clubhouse. The previous year, a friend of mine that was working for the Clearwater Threshers gave me a broken helmet. In 2006, Tomas Perez had been hit in the head by a pitch and cracked the ear flap. Tomas wore number 9. I had told my friend I was going to take the number 9 sticker off and flip it upside down, as Ryan Howard wears number 6, then see if he'll sign the helmet. After the game on March 11th, Ryan emerges out of the Phillies locker room and walks in our direction. Ryan was kind enough to sign and personalize the helmet as I requested. Ryan was having a rough Spring and was really struggling at the plate. After signing the helmet, he was talking to my Dad and I about his struggles. My Dad then goes on to give Ryan pointers on how to break out of his slump. I found this amusing as Ryan was not only a professional baseball player, but just came off an MVP season by hitting 58 home runs! Looking back, watching my Dad talk to Ryan Howard about how to hit is one of the funniest and coolest baseball moments of my life.

Jimmy Rollins

Jimmy Rollins signed this hat for me outside of the Phillies clubhouse at Brighthouse Networks Field on March 11, 2007. Tim Gradoville, a back up catcher on the Phillies 40-man roster invited my Dad and I to the game as a birthday gift to me. (My birthday is March 12th). and invited us down to a restricted area just outside of the Phillies clubhouse. When Jimmy walked out of the clubhouse, I had my hat and sharpie ready. As he approached, I asked him and he was very cool about it. I then asked if he remembered me. He said I looked familiar, but couldn't place where. I told him, "I was your clubby when you played for the Clearwater Phillies". He paused then said with a big smile, "Oh shit! What's up B?!". For me, this was priceless, because it was right in front of my Dad! I then added to the conversation that he used to borrow my Eazy-E CD's in the late 90's. Jimmy then started quoting a lyric from one of Eazy's songs, by singing, "Said I'd rather fuck with you!"... Because my Dad was there, I stopped Jimmy by saying, "Ok we don't need to sing anymore" as we both laughed. Jimmy went on to win the National League Most Valuable Player Award later that year! He's a guy that I think belongs in Cooperstown.

Carlos Beltran

Carlos Beltran signed this 2014 Topps baseball card outside of the players parking lot at George M. Steinbrenner Field on July 15, 2015 as he was leaving the ballpark after playing with the Tampa Yankees on a rehab assignment. Carlos had quite a career, with 2,725 hits, 435 home runs and a career batting average of .279 over 20 seasons! Hopefully, the halls of Cooperstown will soon be calling!

Juan Gonzalez

In the mid 1990's, Juan Gonzalez signed this Beckett Baseball Card Monthly magazine cover for me from inside the visiting team locker room at Jack Russell Memorial Stadium in Clearwater, Florida when his Texas Rangers came to play the Philadelphia Phillies during Spring Training. I remember watching him take BP that day and was amazed by his absolute raw power. Jack Russell Memorial Stadium has a giant green wall in center field, similar to the Green Monster at Fenway Park. Juan looked like he was barely swinging, and yet the ball was still exploding off his bat and sailing high over that giant green wall as if it weren't there at all. It's no wonder he won two MVP awards!

Omar Vizquel signed this 1992 Upper Deck baseball card for me on August 20, 2014 at Tropicana Field. Omar was a coach with the Detroit Tigers and they were in town to play the Tampa Bay Rays.
Omar won 11 Gold Gloves during his career. In my opinion, he's the best shortstop I've ever seen and should have a plaque in Cooperstown to honor what he accomplished on the playing field. I'm very grateful to have Omar Vizquel's autograph represented in my collection!
